Cornish Spiced rum is a great way to add a twist to your wedding drinks menu. This rum is made with a number of local ingredients that give it a flavour all its own.
This molasses-based premium rum is botanically driven with notes of apricot, lemongrass and saffron. The flavours are complex and warming.
BORA Botanical Rum
If you’re a fan of the classic rum cocktail, you will love BORA Botanical Rum. The rum is light and dry, designed to partner perfectly with tonic, while a sprig of rosemary adds botanical notes to the flavour.
It can be served straight up on the rocks or in classic cocktails, and works well with a range of light mixers. It is crafted sustainably, using eco-friendly packaging and offsets emissions by planting trees in Cornwall.
Penryn Spirits’ BORA Botanical Rum is positioned as a “rum for gin lovers”. The distillery’s new product, named after the Cornish word for dawn, is made from locally sourced nettles and quinces to create a light, dry, aromatic spirit.
Founded by Pete Mack and Willoughby Warner, the team are on a mission to breathe new life into traditional spirits. They met while at Britannia Royal Navy College and have harboured dreams of running a distillery together.
Coyaba Spiced Banana
Bananas are a delicious treat and boast a variety of health benefits including supporting regular bowel function to help prevent constipation, bloating and other unwanted digestive symptoms. They contain fiber, which can help maintain a healthy gut and aid in preventing gastoesophageal reflux disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, and intestinal ulcers.
Taking inspiration from west Cornwall, the Coyaba range of funky fresh spiced rums are inspired by natural ingredients that reflect the region’s culture, heritage and locality – but with a Caribbean twist! Carefully selected rums from Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados are blended with pure Cornish spring water, exotic spices and natural flavours to create a rum that’s sweet, spicy and full of sunshine.
The most popular of the bunch is Coyaba Spiced Banana, a bangin’ rum that smacks of banoffee pie with a bit of a spicy cinnamon and vanilla kick. Its smooth finish makes it an ideal partner to any number of desserts including sticky toffee pudding or ice cream. Another rum to try is the Coyaba Salted Caramel, which features real flakes of Cornish sea salt to give it a true tasting twist.
Cape Cornwall Spiced Rum
Cape Cornwall Spiced Rum is a unique blend of Caribbean rum and spices, blended with Cornish spring water. It takes its inspiration from the smugglers of old and pays tribute to Cornwall’s maritime heritage with a rum that’s as delicious as it is unique.
The rum company is run by Jack Shannon and Harvey Thomas, who use a farm building formerly known as ‘the wink’ to lovingly age, mix, spice and bottle their specialist rums. The story goes that in 1925, Harvey’s great great grandfather discovered bottles of rum mysteriously built into the walls of their farm cottage – a tale that was passed down through generations of the Thomas family.
Taking a cue from the smugglers of yesteryear, Cape Cornwall Spiced Rum is made with Caribbean rum and ingredients inspired by the Cornish coastline including saffron, nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s a flavoursome spirit that will make any cocktail menu sing. Try it with a twist of lime for a refreshing mojito or pair with ginger beer for a summery drink that’s perfect for a beach wedding.
Dead Man’s Fingers Original Spiced Rum
Dead Man’s Fingers Original Spiced Rum is a spiced rum created by the chaps behind The Rum and Crab Shack in St Ives. This rum is a blend of Caribbean rums with a hearty helping of spices that make it perfect to mix or enjoy neat.
As well as this rum, the Dead Man’s Fingers range also includes a white rum and two cream liqueurs based on tequila and rum. They are available at Halewood Artisanal Spirits, which acquired the brand in February 2018.
Rachel Adams, Global Marketing Manager for Dead Man’s Fingers, told Martin Moodie that the brand has a promising future in travel retail. She described the range as a step away from the norm.
The company has recently added a zero-proof version of their signature rum, which is crafted using spinning cone technology to de-alcoholise it at a high heat. The product is ideal for those looking to avoid alcohol but still want to try a rum cocktail.
