Apple M1 – 8 Things You Should Know About It

Apple’s M1 is a beast of a CPU that everyone’s curious about. It even made YOU curious enough that you came to us on our post about the Apple M1 chip.

Today, we’re going to answer 13 different questions that people have had in their minds since M1 came out. If you have a question that we didn’t cover here, please comment below and we’ll add it as soon as you post your comment.

Here we go!

Is the Apple M1 chip worth it?

Yes, the Apple M1 chip is worth it!

Apple has just launched their first iteration of the M1 processor for their lower-end Macs, and even with their first iteration and the lower-end Mac CPU, they have the competition sweating! (Intel and AMD)

Apple M1 has the fastest single-core performance right now that no one comes even close to, as you can see on this channel that this guy tests famous processors against the Apple M1 that’s present inside the M1 MacBook Air, which is a completely fanless laptop.

The multi-core performance isn’t too far off either from M1’s revival desktop CPUs from Intel and AMD.

Is the Apple M1 chip better than Intel?

We think that it completely destroys Intel’s current offerings, except their 11th Gen EVO CPUs. They are faster or outperform Apple’s M1 chip in some real-world tasks, according to them.

But even still, we think that when Apple launches their 3nm M1X or M2 chips in the future, they’ll beat everything else in the market… again!

Is M1 better than i7?

In this playlist where you’ll find Apple M1 vs Intel comparisons, you won’t ever find that the M1 gets beaten by Intel’s i9 CPUs even, let alone their i7 lineup.

So yes, the M1 is significantly faster in terms of single-core performance than almost all Intel’s i7 processors.

We say single-core performance because in day to day tasks of most people, single-core performance is what matters the most, like when browsing the internet, and doing other tasks that an average joe does on his computer.

Multicore performance is only required when someone is playing heavy game titles or is rendering or transcoding or converting video files, and even then M1 is faster than Intel, at least when the application gets optimized for M1.

Should I buy a MacBook Pro M1 or Intel?

You gotta be kidding me! (Sorry, had to react this way)

No one in their right mind would buy Intel MacBook Pro right now, especially when Intel Macs are being beaten by the M1 in all fields.

Just watch this comparison between the Intel MacBook Pro vs the M1 MacBook Pro, you think it still deserves your money? When there’s a better, more powerful, and even silent option available with the M1 MacBook Air, that produces no noise and only gets lukewarm.

Should I buy an M1 MacBook Pro or wait?

We think you should definitely wait it out until they launch the new MacBook Pros with the M1X or the M2 processor, which is going to be a proper “Pro” level CPU from Apple for professionals.

They’re rumored to remove the Touch Bar, include the SD Card Slot, and maybe extra USB C’s as well? So why not wait and see what comes up next, and if you don’t like it, you can always buy the current M1 MacBook Pros that you’ll find will get cheaper by the time the newer one’s launch.

So it’s a win and win situation for you in any case.

Oh, and did we mention that the Display bezels are going to be thinner as well? Exciting, right? 😉

Is the Apple M1 chip good for gaming?

The CPU itself is very capable of handling almost any game you want to play on your M1 powered Mac, but the integrated GPU, though is very impressive, still isn’t capable of playing Triple-A games at playable fps.

For example, Fortnite I wasn’t able to enjoy it for half an hour or so, as it started dropping frames here and there and was almost unplayable.

That said, when Epic optimizes it for the M1, I’m sure it’ll be way smoother, probably more so than the iPad Pro which is able to play it at 120 fps. The CPU and the GPU inside the M1 Macs are more powerful than the iPad Pro’s, so it should give you a better gaming experience if the game is optimized for the M1.

Why is Apple M1 so fast?

Well, to answer this question, we’ll have to recommend that you watch this YouTube video:

Did you watch it?

Good!

Let’s move on to the next question, then.

Should I upgrade to M1?

It depends if you should upgrade to M1 or not.

If you’re currently using an Intel-powered MacBook Air, yes, you definitely should upgrade to the newer M1 MacBook Air, you won’t regret it, that’s our promise!

On the other hand, if you’re someone who already owns a MacBook Pro that’s powered by an Intel CPU, we think you should definitely wait it out until Apple comes up with their newly designed M1X or M2 MacBook Pros that are going to be better in almost all the aspects.
